Now this car is a "REAL CLASSIC"
1961 CADILLAC Deville Sedan MOT & TaxThis car has had a nine months "make over" job which started in early December2008 and is now nearing completion. Firstly the car was raised and the underneath was subjected to a thorough inspection. After spending some storage time in a farmers barn I feared the worse >>> needlessly. The underneath was/is in very good condition and NO welding was required. It was thoroughly cleaned, wire brushed and then undersealed to prolong its life for another 48 years. All the interior was then stripped out and the inner floor inspected to confirm the initial no rot/rust conclusion. There was a little surface rust under the rear seat. This was removed ( two minute angle grinder job ) and the whole floor was then sanded and given two coats of hammerite paint. No problems were found and the floor is in very good original condition.
The seats were taken to the proffessionals and were totally rebuilt ( cost £1200 ). All carpet was scrapped. The exterior body work was then started. Some one in the past had done a rubbish respray from white to blue. This paint was ALL removed and wet sanded ( 400 gauge wet & dry ) back to the original white colour. All the trim/mouldings were removed at the start and the car was eventually taken to a proffessional painter to respray it in "ermine white". As I wanted to enhance the fins I also had Pink side flashes on each side of the car. The car was returned to me last week.
The brake pipes have been replaced with a rust free copper system and all the shoes are as good as new. Obviously recently overhauled ( before storage ). Receipts came with the car for a transmission unit overhaul.
99% of the restoration work has now been completed. Work to do includes - 1, engine requires a full service- 2, steering power pump requires repair or replacement ( presently awaiting one from the states ) - 3, front bumper end needs repair and rechrome.
As stated the work is ongoing but the car is for sale now with a price tag of £12500.00. The finished car should be worth at least in excess of £18000.
